All you ever need to know about the Protein power diet

Protein power Diet is a diet that helps you loss weight by reducing drastically the carbohydrates.Michael and Mary Eades, the authors of this diet, are medical bariatric (weight loss) practitioners, in Boulder, Colorado. The authors inspired themselves in creating this diet from our ancestors, that were consuming more meat, so more protein than vegetables. Protein power Diet, as Atkins diet, is based on drastic reduction of the carbohydrates.Carbohydrates, meaning “carbon plus water”, can be found in majority of the fruits, vegetables, oil, grains. When ingested, they are rapidly decomposed and transformed by the organism in sugar, giving energy to the organism. The theory used by the Eades doctors is that increasing the blood level sugar, insulin is activated and takes the sugar from the blood and deposed it in the fat tissue, causing the weight gaining. There are some controversy about this theory. There is not yet scientific determined that the insulin is responsible for gain weight by deposing the sugar in the fat tissues. But there are proofs that showed a relationship between insulin fluctuations and obesity.

Also sciences showed that almost all group food stimulate the increasing of insulin level at some extent. By reducing the carbs, the process of consuming fats can be less efficient. The organism will enter in ketosis, a process that can cause constipation, bad breath, nausea and severe headaches due to loss of fluids. But as Michael and Mary Eades recommend in their diet, carbs have to be replaced with protein and fats. Meat, eggs, cheese, cream or yogurt can be eaten.

Unlike Atkins diet, following the protein power diet, you have to be careful with the calories ingested. Reducing carbs but not measuring calories eaten, the loss weight process will not happen. The amount of protein you are allowed depends on your level of activity. If you are more active, you are allowed to eat more protein than an inactive person. Naturally, protein usually comes in the form of meat. The quantities of protein ingested depend of the level activities of the person who is following this diet. An active person will be allowed to eat more protein from meat, or other source of protein than an inactive person. At those persons applying the diet can be a problem. The calories eaten should be very low. The reverse is the slowing of the metabolism, so the weight loss desired can not be achieved.

There are three phases in protein power diet. The “intervention” phase, the most restrictive one, is the first phase in this diet. Only 40 grams of carbs per day are allowed, divided in three meals and if necessary, two snakes. The little amount of carbs ingested will stabilize the insulin level and will turn the organism on consuming fats and proteins for energy, causing weight loss. After the weight desired is almost reached, comes the “Transition phase”. In this phase, carbs are slowly reintroduced, so the quantities, of carbs consumed per day rise to 50 grams.

Good carbs are encouraged, like berries, melon, peaches, nuts or seeds. Fat that is allowed should not be trans fat, or aliments with Omega-3 fatly acids. The last phase on protein power diet, consist in the “Maintenance” of the weight. The quantities of carbs can be raised at 130 grams per day, but not higher than this level. As doctor’s Eades affirm, the health objectives that can be achieved are the normalization of blood pressure, triglycerides and blood glucose, also weight loss.

As doctor Eades says the carbohydrates are not essentially for life, and there is no carbohydrate-insuffiency described in the medical world, but proteins are very important for the good function of the organism, protein-insuffiency being described and scientifically attested.
